Website to APK checklist: 5 things to check before you build

Turning your website into an APK takes minutes — but a little preparation makes the difference between an app people keep and one they delete. Run through this checklist before you build.

1. Your website

• Loads over https and opens quickly on mobile data.
• Menus, buttons and forms are easy to tap on a small screen.
• No pop-ups that cover the whole screen on phones.
• Login works on a phone browser (test it before building).

2. Your branding

• App name: short enough to fit under an icon — about 12 characters.
• Icon: square, at least 512×512 pixels, simple shape, no small text.
• Splash screen: your logo on a plain background, or a short animation.
• Package name: something like com.yourbrand.app — it can't change after Google Play.

3. App features worth switching on

• Offline screen — a friendly page instead of an error when the internet drops.
• Back button and exit question — on by default so users don't close the app by accident.
• Google sign-in — one-tap account picker (see the setup guide).
• Push notifications — bring people back with news and offers.
• Pull to refresh and file downloads — small touches that feel native.

4. Testing the APK

• Install it on at least one Android phone.
• Open every main page, try the back button, sign in and sign out.
• Turn on airplane mode to check the offline screen.
• Tap outside links (WhatsApp, maps, phone numbers) — they should open the right app.

5. Ready for Google Play?

• A Google Play developer account (one-time fee paid to Google).
• The AAB file, signed with your own key — included on paid plans.
• A privacy policy page on your website.
• Screenshots and a short description (our Play listing helper can write one).
