AdMob ads

Earn money from banner, full-screen, app-open, rewarded and native ads — safely, without risking your AdMob account.

About 20 minutes (plus Google's review)

Before you start

  • A Google account
  • Your app on Google Play (for final approval)
  • Access to your website's files (for app-ads.txt)
  1. 1

    Create an AdMob account

Go to admob.google.com and sign up with your Google account.

Enter your country, time zone and payment details when asked.

  2. 2

    Add your app

Apps → Add app → Android.

If it's already on Google Play, choose Yes and search for it. If not, choose No — you can link it later.

Copy the App ID (looks like ca-app-pub-1234…~5678).

  3. 3

    Create ad units

In your app, click Ad units → Add ad unit. Create the types you want: Banner, Interstitial (full-screen), App open, Rewarded, Native advanced.

Copy each ad unit ID (looks like ca-app-pub-1234…/5678). Note the slash — app IDs have ~, unit IDs have /.

  4. 4

Paste them into the Ads tab

Open your app → Ads tab. Paste the App ID and each unit ID. Green means correct.

Leave 'Use test ads' ON while you try things out. Never tap your own real ads — Google can ban your account.

Pick banner position and how often full-screen ads show. The phone preview shows what users will see.

  5. 5

    Add app-ads.txt to your website

The Ads tab shows a line to copy. Create a file called app-ads.txt at the root of your website (yourdomain.com/app-ads.txt) containing that line.

In Google Play, your developer website must be that same domain.

  6. 6

Set up the privacy (consent) message

AdMob → Privacy & messaging → European regulations → Create message, choose your app and publish.

Apps built with AppifyWebsite show this consent window automatically before any ad in Europe and the UK.

  7. 7

    Go live

Switch 'Use test ads' OFF, rebuild and upload to Google Play.

Play Console → App content → Ads → 'Yes, my app contains ads'.

AdMob reviews your app (a few days). Real ads appear once it's approved.

How to check it worked

  • Test ads appear in the right places while test mode is on
  • The consent window shows once for European users
  • AdMob shows the app as 'Ready' after review

Common problems

No ads at all with test mode off

Normal for new apps — AdMob needs to review the app and fill takes time. Check AdMob → Apps for warnings.

'app-ads.txt not found'

The file must be at the root of the exact domain listed as your developer website in Google Play. It can take a day to be picked up.

Account limited

Usually caused by clicking your own ads. Always use test ads on your own phone.
