Firebase push notifications

Connect your app to Firebase so you can send notifications to everyone who installed it, right from AppifyWebsite.

Before you start

  • A Google account
  • Your app's package name

    Create a Firebase project

    Go to console.firebase.google.com → Create a project.

    Name it after your app. Google Analytics is optional — you can switch it off.

    Wait for it to finish and click Continue.

    Add your Android app

    On the project home, click the Android icon (Add app).

    Android package name: paste yours exactly — a single wrong letter means no notifications.

    Nickname is optional. SHA-1 is optional here. Click Register app.

    Download google-services.json

    Click Download google-services.json.

    Skip the remaining Firebase steps (Next → Next → Continue to console) — AppifyWebsite adds the code for you.

    Upload it to AppifyWebsite

    Open your app → Notifications tab → Setup.

    Upload google-services.json. The checklist turns green when the package name matches.

    Create a service account key (lets AppifyWebsite send for you)

    In Firebase, click the gear icon → Project settings → Service accounts.

    Click Generate new private key → Generate key. A .json file downloads.

    Upload that file in the Notifications tab. We store it encrypted and never show it again. Don't share this file with anyone else.

    Check, rebuild, install, open once

    Click 'Check setup'.

    Build the app, install it and open it once — Android asks to allow notifications: tap Allow.

    The Notifications tab now shows at least 1 phone that can receive notifications.

    Send a test

    Write a title and message, click 'Send a test to my phone'.

    When it arrives, send to everyone or schedule it.

How to check it worked

  • The phone count is above 0
  • The test notification arrives with the app open and closed
  • Tapping it opens the page you linked

Common problems

0 phones registered

Rebuild after uploading google-services.json, install the new version, open it once and allow notifications.

'Package name doesn't match'

You registered a different package name in Firebase. Add another Android app in the same Firebase project with the right name and upload its new file.

Sent, but nothing shows

Check the phone's notification settings for the app, and turn off battery saver for it.
